Spokane

The Bail Project – Spokane serves people incarcerated at the Spokane County Jail and Geiger Correctional Facility in the Spokane Superior Court, Spokane District Court, Spokane Municipal Court court systems.

Spokane County’s heavy-handed drug laws are an anomaly among other Washington counties. Prosecutors here charge more people for felony possession than anywhere else in Washington, a state where opioid use became an epidemic the last ten years. A political battle in the city of Spokane centers on homeless encampments downtown, where some land developers and city officials want to build a new jail. We work with the Spokane City and County Public Defender Offices, the Northwest Justice Project, the Spokane resource center and the local NAACP to identify clients, provide bail assistance and refer clients to services that they need, and resist carceral solutions to health and social problems.
