San Marcos

The Bail Project – San Marcos serves people incarcerated at the Hays County Jail in the District Court and County Courts-at-Law court systems. Additionally, our site in San Marcos serves people incarcerated at the Travis County Jail in the District and County Courts-at-Law court systems.

We began our work in San Marcos through a partnership with Mano Amiga, and we continue to work closely in collaboration with Mano Amiga to identify clients, direct them to holistic services once they’re released from jail, and push for pretrial justice in Central Texas.

The number of people incarcerated in Hays County more than doubled between 1970 and 2017.

The number of women incarcerated in Hays County was nearly 27 times greater in 2017 than it was in 1970.

There are nearly three times as many Black people in jail in Hays County compared to white people, a disproportionate amount in comparison to the overall county population.
