Sunyoung Lie is the Senior Data Insights Manager at The Bail Project.
Her career in data analysis grew along with the availability of open data, as it provided insight into long-standing structural inequities. She combines empathy and a collaborative spirit with statistical analysis and the latest technical tools to construct engaging data visualizations and platforms.
Prior to joining TBP, Sunyoung was Director of Research and Analytics at the Association Office of the YMCA, where she designed systems to continually assess and monitor the organization’s pandemic response across NYC branches. She also held positions at Médecins Sans Frontières and exalt Youth, where she analyzed million-dollar marketing budgets and metrics for justice-involved NYC youth. Her expertise in visual communication developed during her previous career in creative direction (most notably at Verve Records where she was nominated for two Grammy awards).
As a witness to decades of a troubled NYC criminal justice system and a descendant of fellow disruptors, she’s gratified to contribute to substantive change at The Bail Project.
