The Bail Project – Cincinnati serves people incarcerated at the River City Correctional Facility in the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court and the Hamilton County Municipal Court systems.
During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, a Hamilton County Administrative Judge signed an order to release as many people as possible from jail. The jail was at double its capacity at the time when the order was signed.
The number of people incarcerated pretrial in Hamilton County has more than tripled between 1970 and 2018.
Black people are incarcerated at a rate about three times higher than white people.
There were seven times as many women jailed in Hamilton County in 2018 as there were in 1970.
As of 2017, the pretrial population in Hamilton County was higher than both the state and national average.
